The Mérk Kinizsi Sports Club was founded in March 2004. Within the association there is a powerlifting department.
Powerlifting in the village of Mérk started in 1985. Two young men, Ferenc Aradi and Sándor Szűcs, started lifting weights in an unheated room in the changing room of the sports ground. At first people looked at them strangely, as not many people train in sub-zero temperatures, especially not in athletics, but slowly they got used to it as their numbers grew. The equipment that had been used up to then was placed in a corner of the room. The human imagination was set in motion and a variety of fitness machines were created, the like of which is unmatched in the country. The leg muscle exerciser with three channel springs as counterweights is a curiosity. The range of equipment has been constantly extended and is now satisfactory. Attendance at the gym has steadily increased, and there are few boys in the village who have not tried the weights. A team was formed that wanted to compete with others. Fortunately, village and town days spread, where the strong man competition was a spectacular show. As a result of the success achieved here, in 2002 the team entered competitions organised by the Hungarian Powerlifting Federation. The long and persistent work paid off.
The team of Mérk Kinizsi SE has been steadily advancing in the national rankings for years.
The team members of the 1st place in the Powerlifting Team Championship were Tamás Orosi, József Orosi, Márk László, András Bódi, Attila Bódi, Dávid Rácz, Gergő Böszörményi, Gergő Böszörményi Jr. Sándor Szűcs, Tibor Haga, László Görög, Sándor Szűcs, Ferenc Aradi.
Sándor Szűcs was voted the II best powerlifting coach.
In the spring of 2012, 3 competitions were held.
On 31 March, the city of Tab hosted the RAW Hungarian Powerlifting Championships.
In RAW competitions, no support equipment (wrist restraints, belt, push-up suit) is allowed. RAW competitions are growing in popularity, as the quality of equipment does not dominate. In larger clubs, new push-up suits are bought after 4-5 competitions. We soak the suit in hot water to shrink it and use it again. The competition was won by our team.
The Hungarian Powerlifting Championships were held in Orosháza on 14-15 April, where our team achieved III place.
Among the members of the team, the performance of József Orosi should be highlighted, who won the competition with a national record. It was here, at a ceremony, that we received our awards for 2011. The contract was signed here, according to which Orosháza will host the World Youth Bouldering Championships in 2014. The guest of honour was Zsolt Erdei/Madár/.
On 28-29 April the Hungarian Youth, Junior and Masters Championships were held in Jánoshalma.

We had 11 participants in this competition. Our Youth team came 1st, Junior team came 2nd and our Masters team came 3rd. We have to highlight the Masters team where our oldest competitor is 62 years old /you can't tell/ They are setting an example for the youngsters to fight. The members of the team are László Görög, Sándor Oszlánszki, Tibor Haga, Sándor Szűcs, Ferenc Aradi, László Gesztmájer.
After the spring season, preparations for the autumn season continue. The gym continues its daily work, with more and more people visiting the gym.
